Started with the NFL, Evoled into a WordPress Pioneer

April 2008, Viadat Creations (LotsOfLocales’s parent company) joined with a small company, in the Washington, DC area who had created a fast-selling energy bar for a well-known player in the NFL, playing for Washington’s Professional Football team.

After recommending WordPress to manage website content for the energy bar, Viadat began building a store locator in order to display all the stores in the Washington, DC region carrying the product.

Within a few months of beginning, Viadat’s founders noticed — WordPress didn’t have any mapping solutions specifically geared towards allowing users to easily set-up a map, manage locations, and display them for customers to efficiently find their nearest locations …

… and thus, LotsOfLocales was born — launched December 8th, 2008.

Since Conception & Release

LotsOfLocales has since evolved from a WordPress-integrated store locator plugin based on Google Maps, into a full-fledged store locator platform, upon which other developers can extend the capabilities of LotsOfLocales by building their own addons — and profit from their creations.

Market Evolution

From 2008 until present, WordPress has similiarly evolved from being known only for blogging into a full-featured content management system (CMS) that can power any type of website.  Similarly, Google Maps has gone through several updates, most importantly, transitioning from V2 of their mapping technology to V3 presently.

Lastly, with the rise of the iPhone, Android, and several other touchscreen smartphones, the customers’ eyes all slowly shifting from using the internet on desktop, to using it more on their mobile devices — which presents new opportunities for LotsOfLocales & its users into the upcoming years.
